Creatrix Art Studio – Maddison’s Creative Critter – Acrylic on panel

Miss Maddison’s
Creative Critter

The Art of Innocence

It’s hard to ignore the raw imagination of a kid that is unhindered by logic. To be this playful is a true gift. Miss Maddison entered a drawing contest and was gracious enough to share her creativity with me. Being an adult is stressful stuff so I always appreciate it when kids remind me to play. Thank you Maddison for letting me reimagine your creation.

Miss Maddison’s Mom sent me this fantastic and whimsical creature that I simply adored. Who wouldn’t be inspired by this elegant giraffe necked creature with the body of a lady bug and tail of a snake. I simply had to use her drawing as inspiration for the next Creative Critter.

Photoshop to the rescue. This has to be the best thing I learned in High School. Quick color mock-up of concept with scanning from original drawing.

The first task is scaling it to a 4″ piece of wood which is not easy in my case since I usually work on larger paintings.

Here is the first few passes of acrylic washes. I have leaned more towards painting on wood panel rather than canvas. I love seeing the wood grain lightly appear behind the paints.

The final piece of this adorable critter in it’s whimsical world.
